Muhlenberg County Arrest Records Vs. Criminal Records
Muhlenberg County arrest and criminal records are documents that detail an individual's interactions with Law Enforcement Agencies and the justice system. Arrest records typically concern arrests and document the arrests the subject has made. The record is generated by arresting agencies and includes the suspect's name and physical description, booking information, details of the crime, and bail information.
On the other hand, criminal records document the individual's complete criminal history. A full criminal history comprises documents from different agencies, including the arresting agencies and the judiciary. A criminal history details a wide variety of information, including all arrests, court case details, verdicts, and any jail time or supervision, such as probation.
How Long Do Arrests Stay on Your Record?
Arrest records in Muhlenberg County and the rest of Kentucky generally remain on an individual's records permanently unless the person takes the appropriate steps to remove them. Kentucky law provides interested parties with a process to remove arrests, charges, or sentences from their records if they qualify, called expungement.
Muhlenberg County Arrest Warrants
Arrest warrants are official documents issued by magistrates or judges that allow law enforcement to track down and arrest an individual suspected of a criminal offense. In Muhlenberg County, an arrest warrant may be issued after law enforcement files a complaint showing probable cause that a crime was committed. Generally, a peace officer, the court clerk, or the county attorney may file the complaint. If they did not file it, the county attorney must review it.
The county attorney then submits the complaint to the judge for authorization. Judges may authorize, reject, or suspend the complaint. They may also send it to mediation, where a hearing is called to establish if the warrant is necessary. If authorized, the judge issues the warrant to law enforcement. Kentucky law enforcement is also notified about the warrant via the state's E-Warrants system.
An arrest warrant issued in Muhlenberg County will generally contain the following information:
- Subject details, such as the names and physical description of the subject of the warrant
- Description of the crime committed and what laws it broke
- Authority from the court for law enforcement to arrest the subject and bring them before the judge
- The name, title, and signature of the judge who issued the warrant

Arrest warrants issued in Kentucky do not expire and have no statute of limitations for their execution. This means that a warrant issued in Muhlenberg County will remain active until the subject is arrested or surrendered, or the judge who issued it cancels or recalls it.
